I enjoyed this movie almost as much as I enjoyed the book, which is rare!
A wonderful feel good story.
Very meaningful, beautifully acted, just a great movie. It's crazy that people had (have?) such a problem with skin color!
Good- August boatwright is exactly how I imagined her. I loved June's character.
Thought it was mostly true to the book, I really enjoyed it!
Agonizingly slow. There are plenty of better made stories about racism in the south. What a waste of potenital.
Good - Secret Life of Bees (2008) 110 min. It continues to blow my mind when I see films and news stories about racism in the U.S. or anywhere against African-Americans and intolerance against others with varying religious beliefs. How could man lower himself to such hate all because of the color of one’s skin or of one’s beliefs? Sinful and tragic! It is the one cancer that continues to destroy our humanity. This is the underlying theme of this film about a young girl that runs away from an abusive father into the loving arms of a honey farmer (Queen Latifah). To the observer, the white supremacists in this picture are filled with hate, pride and egotism whereas the African-Americans are filled with love, humility and patience. The are a couple of scenes where two African Americans want to fight back but the love that surrounds them in their own family quiets that rage into submission – isn’t that wonderful? The young white girl played beautifully by Dakota Fanning sees this and runs to the ones that show her love, something she feels she’s lacked all her life.
Outstanding! Every member in the cast is superb. Another amazing performance from Dakota Fanning.
